Ricoh becomes first "cashless" UK stadia

THE Ricoh Arena in Coventry has taken the first step to becoming the first ‘cashless’ stadium in British sport.
German company payment solution AG have signed an agreement with the venue to introduce the pioneering new technology.
Coventry City’s home Championship game with Plymouth Argyle on Saturday marked the debut of the introduction of the first phase of the new system.

Supporters were able to purchase food and beverages from stadia outlets using a special customized card and cut down on waiting times, rather than having to rely on traditional cash.
Munich-based payment solution AG, with its subsidiary payment solution services Ltd. are a leading company in the supply of the technology and have already implemented a system at the RheinEnergie Stadium in Cologne - a venue of the FIFA World Championship 2006 - under the brand name of ‘justpay’.
Heinz-Peter Strömsdorfer, sales and marketing director of payment solution AG, said: “We are delighted to welcome the Ricoh Arena on board as the first British venue to become truly cashless.
“Our intention is to remove cash entirely from the venue and at the same time offer many more interesting functionalities in respect of CRM and commercialization as well as various integration possibilities such as ticketing and access.
“Our business model is to provide full on-site support and remove the operational burden completely from the client.”
The business model of payment solutions AG requires no investment by the client. The whole package covers all related cost including payment system technology, personnel, payment clearing and cards.
All financial and legal services plus comprehensive knowledge in stadium consulting are included in the total concept.
